Lecturer of University of Economics & Business, Viet Nam National University - attended the Conference on Financial Education and Consumer Protection in Supporting Financial Inclusion of Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD)

Accepting the invitation of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Dr. Dinh Thi Thanh Van, Associate Dean of Banking and Finance Faculty attended the Conference the Role of Financial Education and Consumer Protection in Supporting Financial Inclusion in Siem Reap, Cambodia on 22nd November 2019.

OECD stands for Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, which was established in 1961 on the Organisation for European Economic Co-operation (OEEC) with 20 founding members including developed countries in the world such as the US, Japan, Britain, Germany ... The original goal of the OECD is to build strong economies in member countries, promoting and improving economic efficiency, expanding free trading market and contributing to economic development in industrial countries. In recent years, OECD has expanded its scope of activities, sharing research results and development experiences for developing countries and economies transitioning to market economies. Therefore, OECD and WB can be seen as the two largest organizations in the world are interested in financial inclusion, financial understanding, fintech and consumer protection.

The Conference was co-organized by the National Bank of Cambodia (NBC), the Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI) and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) with the goal of providing a forum to discuss how to develop financial education and consumer protection activities to promote financial inclusion in Cambodia and Southeast Asian countries. Attending the seminar were numerous leaders, financial experts from Cambodia and a number of Asian countries, including leaders from Central Banks, Ministry of Finance, Policy Makers, Government leaders and researchers, representatives from the private sector and non-governmental organizations.

Dr. Dinh Thi Thanh Van was invited to participate as the facilitator of the second seminar on Financial Awareness Assessment on the first day of the Conference. She was honored to present a research spotlight on the development role of financial technology companies (fintech) in promoting financial inclusion in Asia and giving some experience on financial education in Vietnam in the second day of the Conference. The presentation of Dr. Van emphasized that the development of innovation, ecosystem development and infrastructure for fintech companies is an important factor in promoting financial inclusion in Vietnam. In addition, Dr. Van also presented some experiences of cooperation with fintech companies in financial education by the Vietnam Financial Literacy Network in recent years. Vietnam Financial Literacy Network is a group of personal finance research and training which was founded by tutors and activists in Vietnam in 2015.

The presentation of Dr. Van has received many questions and appreciation from the guests attending the Conference. Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) continues to invite Dr. Van shared in the next seminar of this organization in association with the Central Bank of Malaysia during 11-12 December 2019. This is an opportunity for lecturers of the University of Economics to meet and work with leading experts on Personal Finance in the world and promote the activities of group research in Personal Finance in University of Economics & Business.
