1. Stocks post strongest gain in nearly eight weeks(21/03)

Vietnam’s benchmark VN-Index surged 1.76 percent to 1,494.95 points Monday, its biggest gain in nearly eight weeks, as global indexes rose amid continuing peace talks between Russia and Ukraine.

The index started off in the green and went up gradually to close nearly 26 points higher in its fifth straight session in the green.

VN-Index has risen nearly 49 points in the last five sessions.

2. Pharmaceutical retailers race to expand

While many companies were driven out of business by the pandemic in the last two years, three drugstore chains have been in a race to open new outlets.

Pharmacity, Long Chau and An Khang have been opening up to several stores a day since the pandemic began, and their competition is expected to further heat up in the upcoming months.

3. VietinBank Securities eyes another record year

VietinBank Securities eyes record profits again this year though the stock market itself is likely to be down.

Its board has approved a profit target of VND505 billion ($22 million), 5 percent up from last year.

Last year pre-tax profits tripled to VND480 billion on revenues of VND1.06 trillion

4. FLC to be part of $5-billion Vietnam - Laos railroad project

Vietnamese company FLC will join hands with Laos’ Petroleum Trading Lao Public Company to build a $5-billion railroad line between the two countries.

They signed a memorandum of understanding on the cooperation in the Laotian capital Vientiane Monday. The 555-kilometer line will connect Laos’ capital Vientiane with Vung Ang Port in the central coastal province of Quang Binh. Construction is expected to begin in the final quarter of this year.
